Mehndi Henna Art is a type of temporary body decoration using a paste called Henna. It is made from a plant called the Lawsonia inermis (Henna plant) and is prepared into a cone shaped tool enabling the Mehndi artist to create beautiful detailed body artwork. The paste is applied wet, this then dries and flakes off, this leaves an orange stain which then turns to a maroon/dark brown colour leaving the artwork that was first applied. The Henna paste creates a stain on the top layer of the skin. It dates back well over 5,000 years and is said to originate from Ancient Egypt. It is widely used South Asia, North Africa, East Africa and the Middle East but due to its beauty this form of body art is quickly becoming popular all over the world. Henna Art is used in many traditions/rituals such as Hindu and Muslim weddings, Eid and festivals. Mehndi is from the Sanskrit word 'Mendhika' which refers to a plant that releases red dye. The Mehndi designs are traditionally in the shapes of vines, mandalas, lace and flowers and is mostly created on the hands and feet but as its popularity is spreading over other cultures and countries people are having this stunning artwork on all different places of the body. Mehndi Henna Art is also beginning to be known as Henna Tattoos but this is not the correct term. This beautiful form of art symbolises joy, beauty, spiritual awakening, good luck, good health, positive spirits and offering. Mehndi Henna Art usually lasts between 2-3 weeks. This is a temporary form of body art and will fade. It is an all natural product meaning there are very rarely any issues with irritation from the paste although at Bliss we do prefer to do a patch test to be on the safe side. There have been reported incidents regarding Henna when a black dye is used which contains Paraphenylenediamine (PPD). We DO NOT use black Henna due to how dangerous it is. The Henna paste we use is made of all natural ingredients which are Henna leaves, eucalyptus oil, clove oil and water At Bliss we are a Spiritual practice and being able to offer an art form with so much beautiful and Spiritual history is something really special to us. We do require people to come in for a patch test to be on the safe side and then we can offer you our stunning Mehndi Henna Body Art with Virgo Henna.
