Indian Head Massage, also known as champissage or champiis is a therapeutic treatment that has been practised in India for thousands of years. This type of massage focuses on the head, scalp, face, neck, shoulders and upper back.

This type of massage for Indians is a tradition used on a daily basis. It has been passed on through generations of the family and is encouraged from a very early age in order to promote strong and healthy hair growth. It has also been used by barbers in India as part of the service to their customers. The word Shampoo comes from the Hindi word 'Champi, which means massage of the head.

In India, oils are usually used but it is not necessary, it is a preference of the client. Oils are encouraged though as it promotes healthy hair. Coconut, Sesame, Almond, Olive Oil, Herbal Oils, Buttermilk, Mustard Oil and Henna were all used to keep their long hair strong and in beautiful condition. Now different Aromatherapy oils are used to compliment the healing qualities of an Indian Head Massage
